One of the things that I hate about living in New England is that finding fresh fruits and vegetables is contingent on the season that it is. My favorite fruit is strawberries, and for at least half of the year the strawberries I find in my local grocery stores (and Walmart) just don’t look healthy. That is why I am patiently waiting for the trees to show their leaves again, flowers to bloom, and fresh, juicy, organic strawberries to hit the scene here in Massachusetts. Some of my favorite fruits and vegetables that grow in the spring are below, and this website lists all of them and the regions they grow in.
My Spring favorites:
Baby carrots, kiwis, lemons, lettuce, navel oranges, strawberries
And, to pay homage to Spring, I would like to share with you a recipe from Kitchen Treaty. This recipe is a smoothie, like my first post, but I swear to you that I eat things other than smoothies. The recipe is for a Chocolate Strawberry Smoothie and can be found here. I have yet to try this recipe because the strawberries here still suck, but maybe if I am impatient enough I will try frozen strawberries. The best thing about this recipe is that it is so simple, easy and quick to make. That means I don’t have to wake up earlier to make time for breakfast because I can just throw this together if I am running late or even make it the night before and refrigerate it! Anyway, when I have tried it, I will post about it letting you know how it went. Thanks for reading!
